Styling Secrets to Take Your Hair from Thin to Thick

Styling Secrets to Take Your Hair from Thin to Thick

By Noor van Gemert

Sometimes you’re born with it, and sometimes it’s just simple hair hacks when styling your hair. We’re all for embracing what your Mumma gave you, but it’s not wrong to want thicker, fuller hair (as long as you 100% embrace everything else). If you aren’t one of the lucky few who have naturally thick hair, you’ll want to take note.

  1. Cut Back on the Layers

No matter how many times you binge-watch Friends, you want to resist the urge to get Rachel Green's layers cut into your hair. Layers, especially excessive layers like Rachel’s, involve cutting off a lot of hair, which is the exact opposite of what you want to be doing to make thin hair look thicker.

Layers are only really recommended for facial shaping, or when you have thick hair and need to lose some weight to stop hairstyles from falling flat the moment you walk out the front door. For thicker, fuller hair that eventually does call for layers, fake it till you make it and stick to one length.

  1. Use a Volume Spray

Where there’s volume, you can bet there’s volume spray. When sprayed directly onto your roots and massaged into the hair, it can instantly make thin hair look thicker.

To dare to go big or go home, flip your head upside down then massage the volume spray into your hair for some anti-gravity action. This causes your roots to lift off your scalp, rather than be pushed down onto the scalp when you’re standing upright.

If you have thin hair, then you already know how fragile it is, meaning any ol’ volume spray just won’t do. When choosing a volume spray, it’s essential you pick one that won’t dry your hair out.

Volume Spray 250ML - €24

Our Volume Spray contains carefully selected ingredients that’ll bring you heaps of volume without the dryness. Hair won’t feel sticky or stiff throughout the day, so you can pull off any voluminous hairstyles without giving away your secret to thicker, fuller hair. We won’t tell if you don’t!

  1. Add in Some Highlights

If you’ve been debating highlights for a while now, it’s time to take the plunge. A variety of colours throughout your head of hair adds different dimensions, making your hair appear thicker and fuller.

Balayage has the same effect, yet it’s the low maintenance option as the roots look more natural as they begin to grow out. So, if you’re new to highlights and not sure if you can commit to regularly going to a salon to make your hair look thicker, start off with balayage.

  1. Create Volume at the Roots with an Afro Pick

An afro pick is probably one of the easiest (and quickest for girls on the go) hair hacks to make curly hair look fuller. In just a few moments you can achieve thicker, fuller hair wherever you may be.

Flip your hair over your face and insert the afro pick lifting upwards. When picking your curls, avoid combing your hair from the roots all the way to the ends. You only need to take your afro pick 4-5cms down for voluminous roots.

Bamboo Afro Pick - €12

All that picking can be harsh on thinner curls, which is why we suggest using Curls N’ Clouds Bamboo Afro Pick as it’s made from 100% premium bamboo. It’s softer on the hair and will reduce hair loss, as you want to hold onto every single hair you have to create the most volume. What’s more, it has longer teeth to reach deeper into the hair to better pull off the illusion of thicker, fuller hair.
